DOGS

Adopting a pet is one of the happiest days in the lives of many dogs and their new owners.

This is a time of novelties, because the dog and the owner adapt to the lifestyle, tastes and needs of the other.

I hope this is the beginning of a lifelong relationship. Sometimes it can be difficult, as Lewis Jimenez discovered.

When Jimenez decided to adopt a dog, he went to the Austin Animal Shelter.

And while he was looking at various dogs, he stopped on one, in particular, Titus, aged 8 months.

A pit bull, Titus had the stigma of his race against him, but Jimenez was willing to look beyond and brought him home.

Shortly after returning to the apartment complex where he lived, Jimenez immediately encountered problems with neighbors regarding his choice of dogs.

One, in particular, repeatedly complained to the owner about Titus. Yet Titus lived with Jimenez for four years.

That’s because Jimenez did everything to make his neighbors feel safe with Titus living in the complex. But some people seem to hold a grudge no matter what you do.

Everything comes at the right time
Jimenez had even woken up at 4 a.m. to walk Titus so the neighbors wouldn’t have to meet him.

But when his 10-year-old grandson took Titus for a walk one day, the troublesome neighbor was ready to get into trouble.

Jimenez made it a point to show up at the shelter often to make sure Titus was okay.

He promised Titus that he would come back to pick him up as soon as possible.
Then, after four months, Jimenez was able to find another home in his price range.
