Zoo forced to remove 5 parrots from public view for insulting visitors

Parrots can learn a lot of language and that’s one of the many reasons why they are such amazing birds.

But sometimes their ability to repeat words and phrases ends up backfiring.

A parrot sanctuary in England recently took care of this when five of its African Gray parrots developed a rather colorful language.

The birds, who lived at the Lincolnshire Wildlife Centre, encouraged each other to swear openly in front of visitors and it got so bad the zoo was forced to remove them from the public eye!

According to AP News, the zoo’s general manager, Steve Nichols, said: «We’re quite used to the parrots swearing, but we’ve never had five at once.

Most parrots are quiet outside, but for some reason these five love it.

Nichols revealed to BBC News that guests’ reactions to swearing parrots actually encouraged their behavior. He said they «swear to trigger a reaction or a response», which they get when people laugh or act shocked.

The birds in question, Billy, Eric, Tyson, Jade and Elsie, have been split into two different colonies, away from the public ear.

The hope is that the birds will learn more appropriate vocabulary with so many other parrots around, but there’s a small chance that this will backfire.

I end up with 250 swearing birds, I don’t know what we’re going to do,” Nichols said, according to BBC News.

Hopefully the birds tone it down a bit so they can be reintroduced to the public!
