When you hear the word Siberia, what do you imagine? For some, it is perhaps lush vegetation, forest, and lots of wildlife.
At the same time, I think most people think of freezing winters and barren, snowy landscapes. The temperature in the area can drop to minus 40 or 50 degrees in winter.
Of course it is obvious to all of us that a baby cannot be left outside in such circumstances. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened in this very strange but at the same time incredible story in the Altai region of Russia.
A mother had abandoned her two-year-old son, leaving him on the terrace with a temperature that had dropped to minus 20 degrees.
It was almost impossible for the baby to survive the night – but then a four-legged angel appeared and saved the day.
In the house where the child was abandoned there was also a dog. He immediately realized the danger the little boy was in outside on the terrace.
What did the dog do then? He just jumped on top of the boy.
The dog’s body temperature and coat managed to keep the little one warm and alive for three days.
Then the neighbors realized that the dog was lying curled up on the terrace and they went to see if everything was in order. When they discovered the boy under the dog’s fur, they realized the seriousness of the situation.
Despite the dog’s protection and his heroic reaction, the boy suffered from severe hypothermia and was in very poor condition.
Miraculously, the boy survived and was immediately taken to hospital, writes the English-language newspaper The Siberian Times. Daily Mail has also reported on the story.
They describe the dog as a «hero» and his reaction was that of an «angel», say the inhabitants of the Loktevsky region.
The mother, for her part, was arrested and faces a possible prison sentence, in addition to losing custody of her son. She returned four days after the neighbors found the baby, writes The Siberian Times.
If it hadn’t been for the incredible care this dog showed, this story would have had a very different ending. But time and again the loyalty of our four-legged friends is confirmed. They fight against fire, ice and water – to protect us. This dog is a true hero!
This is not the first time that a dog has rescued a child, against all odds, in Siberia. A few years ago, 3-year-old Karina Chikitova got lost and disappeared without a trace with her dog, from her home in a remote village in Sacha, one of the largest areas of Russia.
The girl disappeared for nine days, surviving by eating berries and sleeping on a bed of grass. Then her dog ran away and found a nearby town. The clever dog showed the volunteers the way, and they were finally able to find the 3-year-old girl. An incredible relief for parents!
She didn’t have any injuries it would just be scratches on her feet.
The dog had protected the girl at night and helped her little girl by making her feel safe – she would later find her way for other people to find her.
Both boys are alive and well to this day – all thanks to their faithful dog friends. Dogs are truly amazing and heroic animals!
