As Hurricane Irma made its way into Florida, people across the state either evacuated or made camp. Those who did decide to stay stocked up on groceries, closed their windows, and hoped for the best.
But humans weren’t the only ones looking for a safe place to weather the storm. Many people have fled the state, sadly leaving behind their pets.
There were also many animals that were already strays, forced to face Irma as they roamed the streets in fear.
One of the latter was a small dog desperately seeking shelter in central Florida. While wandering the streets, she came to the home of a family who were preparing for the storm.
When the woman saw this sweet little dog, she called her. The clever dog looked both ways before crossing the road, and he didn’t even hesitate to approach the woman.
The woman welcomed the dog and gave her some food. She was extremely hungry and thirsty.
She inhaled three bowls of food and drank two cups of water within minutes.
She assumed the puppy had been on the road for quite some time because his coat was covered in dirt and feces and was painfully matted,
he had scrapes and cuts on his skin, his paws were bleeding and he had tar stuck to his skin. his backside.
The woman welcomed this lost dog into her home, and she soon realized how friendly she really was. He was very cuddly and put his paw on her arm.
After her dog warmed up with her, the woman gave her a much-needed bath. At this point, the dog knew she was there to help. The woman cut the carpets, which was probably a relief for the dog.
She let the dog out to play in her backyard, and the dog was absolutely ecstatic. She ran in circles and she even tried to carry some sticks that she had found in the house.
The woman took the dog to the vet the next day to be examined and scanned for a chip. Unfortunately, she didn’t have one.
The vet believes he is a husky/wolf mix and less than a year old.
The woman took to social media to see if this dog had an owner. She soon discovered that this poor dog was owned by several families and had a difficult past.
Her original owners lost their apartment and weren’t able to take her when they moved, so they gave her to a couple they thought would look after her.
But this family also gave it away. The last owner she had was a man who could no longer keep her, so she left her outside the truck on the side of the road in another town to fend for herself.
The dog spent the next four weeks roaming the streets alone, desperate for food. But what she wanted even more was a warm home and a loving family.
But it ended up exactly where it was supposed to be.
The woman who found her decided to adopt her and give her a forever home! She called her Amaterasu, or «Amy» for short.
Luckily, she was found just in time and she didn’t have to face Irma as she was living on the street. She was able to weather the storm in a warm and loving home.
Amy, who is now clean and looking much healthier, is as happy as she ever was. She is extremely lovable and loving, and enjoys cuddling with her new mom.
